Everus Gold Seal Witness Solutions
Since the beginning of commerce, people have used witnessing as the primary means to verify an agreement: when you get married, you do it in front of witnesses; many documents must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public who acts as a witness to the signature. DTMI brings the well-established power of witnessing into the digital age with the Everus Distributed Witnessing system.
Using Everus Distributed Witnessing, a document is first digitally "fingerprinted" using industry standard algorithms. The fingerprint is a digital digest of the document that has several important properties:
It is small |
It is easy to generate |
The tiniest change in the document results in a different fingerprint |
Nothing about the contents of the document can be derived from the fingerprint |
Thus the fingerprint can act as a tamper-proof seal on a document. If a copy of a document turns out to have a different fingerprint from the original, then it is not a fair copy of the original.
In the second stage, the fingerprint is distributed through a network of witnesses, who all timestamp and record the fingerprint. Because nothing about the document content can be derived from the fingerprint, witnesses are not being trusted with document content. Documents can be verified by generating a new fingerprint and comparing it with the one stored in the witness network. Even if several of the witnesses are unavailable or go out of business, the remaining witnesses can be used to generate a preponderance of evidence that verifies the document content. As data storage technology mutates over time, the only requirement is that the witness archives be converted into the new technology. In this way, the act of witnessing is protected against technological obsolescence
These witness rings can be co-branded, providing a revenue stream for trusted third parties who can charge to act as document witnesses. Thus companies with long-term stability, such as banks and credit card agencies, can act as witnesses

Everus Assured Data Repository
The Everus Distributed Witnessing system solves the problem of proving the veracity of a digital document. But you still have to be able to find it. The Everus Assured Data Repository solves that problem by providing a write-once read-many repository for digital documents. Implemented as a plug-in to popular document creation software, the Everus Assured Data Repository appears as an extra button or menu item. Selecting that option both witnesses the document using an Everus Distributed Witnessing Network, and stores the document in a secure local archive.
Because it provides both document stability and a searchable secure archive, the Everus Assured Data Repository dramatically reduces the cost of document storage by eliminating the need for paper backup.
